You're Invited to the Great TSR Laser Projector Shootout Saturday and Sunday, August 20th and 21st

Sony vs. JVC 4K Projector Shootout

We know everybody is just as excited as we are to see how the new Sony laser projectors compare with JVC's laser projectors! So, we thought it would be both interesting and educational to hold a shootout - and let the JVC and Sony projectors go head to head - on the same screen, in the same room, and fully-calibrated to look their best. If we can get our hands on one, we're going to throw the new Epson LS12000 into the mix, too!

This isn't just a "Oooh, look!" marketing and sales event; it'll also be educational. While the event is a shootout and we're evaluate their performance, the goal isn't to "pick a 'hands-down' winner." The goal is to take our time, put these machines through their paces, and learn some things. We'll look at how they handle various content in HDR and SDR, look at the differences, and talk about what the machines are doing - and how they're doing it. Kris will walk us through various types of content and talk us through what's happening on-screen. We'll even have representatives from Sony and JVC there to talk about their products and answer your questions.

Which Projectors?

Here are the projectors we're planning to have for the laser projector shootout August 20th and 21st:

Lightweight Class

Sony VPL-XW5000ES (MSRP $5,999)

JVC DLA-RS1100 (MSRP $6,999)

Middleweight Class

Sony VPL-XW6000ES (MSRP $11,999)

JVC DLA-RS2100 (MSRP $10,999)

Heavyweight Class

JVC DLA-RS3100 (MSRP $15,999)

Sony VPL-XW7000ES (MSRP $27,999)

A Fair Fight

The projectors will all be calibrated by Kris Deering of Deep Dive AV and Writer/Technical Editor of Sound and Vision magazine. All projectors will be set up side by side to project on our 144-inch Stewart Filscreen 2.35:1 StudioTek 130 reference masking screen. Some of the testing will be done "blind", where those viewing will not know which projector is being viewed. The shootout will be held in our showroom here in north Colorado Springs. We have a dark room with full light control - essential for the critical evaluation of projectors. We will be putting the projectors through their paces using a variety of 4K HDR and SDR content from our Kaleidescape player for reference-quality source material. Because we are holding the event in our showroom, the environment will be ideal, however seating will be limited. For this reason, we are spreading the event over two days - Saturday and Sunday, August 20th and 21st, from 1-5 pm each day. If you're interested in attending, email Steve as soon as possible and we will reserve you a spot.
